I have done that many times. NOW when I have something on the stove I set the timer for the time I need to come back and check on the pot. When I hear the annoying beeps I am reminded of the pot!

I HAD enamel T pot and let it run dry-doing what you did- and the enamel melted on to the burners of the electric stove and left an empty circle on the bottom of the pot. Now it is sittin on a shelf looking pretty but unusable and I cant get the enamel off the burner and if ou use it it stinks AND I still havn't thrown it out- J.

I made sweet potatoes and had them on the back eye of a glass top stove while I made the topping. I though I had turned on the front eye for a pan of water. While I had my back to the stove (thank goodnes) all of a sudden I heard a "shot" on off and thought someone has shot a gun in my house. I turned around and there was glass and sweet potatoes all over my stove and floor. i was so lucky that no one was walking by when it exploded. They would have been hurt badly. I am extra careful now!

Another reason I like a gas stove. Glad no one was injured.

I have exploded eggs but was lucky enough not to destroy the stove. So sorry about your stove!

Bread burns, literally it will catch on fire. My DH decided to heat some bread in the microwave and set it for a gazillion minutes. The bread caught fire. The smoke inside the microwave turned the plastic from white to a little darker than the heading on these pages. COULD NOT clean the discoloration off and had to just trash the microwave.

I've boiled over some veggies already, but never to the point of ruining anything. Goodness! That will be expensive; maybe have a carr-along timer with you so you know when to go check! at least for eggs.

YIKES !! the timr is a very good thing-I can fruits, make jellies and such-hubby teases me about having 2 timers-One I set for imnmediately the other I set if I am going to do anything other than canning, or jelly making, the other I set for 3 minutes faster than the first, then I know I am back.
This comes after the grand mother in law telling me about her burning a batch of jelly trying to get some crocheting done with the tv on. This was her solution for the next batch so I practice it !!
LOL better than the smell afterwards for sure !! LOL
