    Yes, it is only the tops of the shams, loaded onto the extra backing at the same time as the quilt is loaded. After quilting the quilt and sham tops they are cut apart. Then the sham tops are finished with a backing, making them into "pillow cases".

    No, it is all freehand. I do like to use the inside corners of pieced blocks and "jump" my stitching from corner to corner. Keeping my eye on that corner spot I can "drive" the machine smoothly from corner to corner. Like driving a car around a curve.

    Doris makes up her own designs as she goes, usually draws out her own patterns.
