After I started this thread my wife read it and said: "I want a white FeatherWeight". Say what? She don't even use her black one.

However I decided that if she gets a white one, I'll keep the black one in memory of the one my mom had. That should work.

I have 5 Singer 221s. One green 1964 with white/green case, which I was given by my mother so she could teach me to sew back in 1964. Two black ones dated 1950 and 1953 both given to me by my neighbor...for FREE, including cases. I bought 2 non-working ones from an antique store to strip and restore. Still working on those.

Plan on giving all of them to my grandchildren when I teach each of them to sew. They are all too young to have them now. Wait another 3 years and they will be happy to have them.

    Joe,
For much cheaper you might find a 'white' Kenmore Featherweight. It is actually a Kenmore 158.1030 It does more than straight stitch.

WHAT? It is very cute. Look at the cute case and tell me the FW case is cute... and you could probably buy 3 of them for the cost of one lousy FW.

Joe, tell your wife she may want a white Featherweight but the original black machine is of much higher quality of manufacture. I have a white one and IMHO it does not stitch as nice and the power and foot controller are hardwired into the machine. The only reason I own a white one is because it came in a lot of 5 machines and the price was very good.
