Ltsew sorry your husband is dealing with his fathers declining health and lack of support from the family.

To my Michigan friends my heart goes out to you on the mass shooting in your beautiful state

Good afternoon. I’m working on my binding and have done another half side so only one and a half more to go. I’m trying to get it done by Thursday morning so I have something to share at the guild meeting. I don’t dare bring it unfinished.

Lstew, it isn’t kind of relatives to complain about the situation if they are unable or unwilling to help and I mean help in a big way. We had a similar situation nearly 20 years ago. We took in DH’s aunt who had been living on her own and developed Alzheimer’s. It was a bad scenario for her as the family didn’t realize it immediately as she was not close to anyone. No one besides DH could or would help so DH and I took over with the court’s consent. He became her legal guardian and made all the decisions. Sad. No one even came to see her. It still affronts me to this day but DH did his best with no assistance from anyone but me.

Back to the binding.

Janice, you will have that binding licked in no time, and then you’ll be searching for a new evening project. I think what you and your hubby did taking care of his aunt is so admirable and loving. God won’t forget your sacrifice.

GramE, my mother used to call those cookies “spritz”, and they were part of her yearly Christmas cookie baking. Made with so much butter, they melted in your mouth like shortbread. I got her cookie press after she died. I need to find it and make some this year.

I wanted to show y’all the first of my Walkabout quilts, all done but the binding. I’m having to post from my phone, so here goes…

Yes, SewBiz, spritz is what it is. We used to have a group, the secret sisters of the spritz. SSS. But it got too big and no one else was baking cookies. But many ways to secretly hide cookies were revealed. My favorite involved and empty tampon box and the deep freeze. These women would go to great lengths to keep their spritz cookies hidden. They had to stop being the secret sisters because they were doing a great job of recruiting new members and i could not keep up!. It is a fun time for all. And they keep buying me cookie shooters so i have to keep making them. I think I have 10 cookie shooters.

Spritz cookies! I haven’t made them in 30 years. Mine never looked very nice but they were delicious. Your Spritz group made me laugh. Thank you, GramE.

Your quilt is very pretty, SBG.

40 more inches on the binding. I’m working to finish it tonight.

Everyone - such lovely blocks!
Janice - The black and white setting of your quilt is outstanding! And I sympathize with you about hand-stitching the binding. I've got a black-on-black queen that I have half-bound after 2 years. My daughter rags me about it all the time. (It's hers, of course.)
SBG - I've never heard of a Walkabout quilt. Yours looks very pretty.
Terriamn - Nice block for TG. The colors are so nice. I'm glad you are doing better. Best wishes to your in-laws. Hospice was a blessing for my family; I hope your family finds peace.
TG - Love the purple rose and star blocks!
GramE- That Flying Star looks fantastic. It'll be lovely in TG's patriotic quilt.

Edit: spelling

Binding. Is. Done! Here’s a pic in poor lighting. I’ll take a better one tomorrow. The binding is the same as the backing.

The other top is actually a dark Mottled grey and light grey but it seems black and white. I’m tempted to just throw a binding on it instead adding borders. We’ll see.

Hav4Boys - I guess you like bees. *grin* The oranges just called out to the little pollinators. Especially since bees were in your first fabric. The green background is a BONUS block from the fat eighth.

Once upon a time I used vegetable and fruit fabrics like these to make a shadowbox style quilt. It's in rotation for our guest bedroom. It was a simple quilt and it always gets raves. I'm looking forward to seeing your finished project.

LStew - Here are a couple blocks for you. (One is a BONUS !). One has the many colors of falling leaves, the other is supposed to be a maple leaf. No turkeys, I'm afraid.
