I had a Necchi I bought used for 25 years, and I cried when it finally gave up it's last stitch.

My very first "high tech" sewing machine was a Nelco by Necchi. It did everything the Pfaff could do and was way less expensive. I loved that machine, if I could find another one like it I'd buy it.

I was living in a small town in the midwest and a dealer posted an ad for a Singer, they would bring their line of machines to your home, it was the old bait and switch but I was young and naive and didn't know any better. The Singer was trashed beyond works, but the Necchi was beautiful and colorful and near new condition and around $300 (in 1971 that was a lot!!). My payments were $30 a month and I used my waitress tips to pay for it. It was so heavy we had to pay $40 for a cabinet strong enough, and with a wide enough inset, to house it. Aw, memories!!!

When I was in high school we all learned to sew on treadle sewing machines. In 12th grade (1961) we finally got a couple electric sewing machines. We didn't get enough for all of us to use so we had to take turns. Those new machines were Necchis. We were told they were the top of the line and "The Best". I haven't seen any since high school but remember I loved to sew on it.

Yes, grab them. They were the elite machines at one time. Real work horses.

My Mom won a Necchi in a contest during the 50s. She sewed so much more than before and really loved her machine.

well, now you tell me!
I had a Necchi...a very basic one that was used in a high school home ec class for ? years...got it as a graduation present.
Eventually I gave it to my DD, but I don't know what she did with it.
She bought herself a brother last year.
She isn't a packrat so i don't think it's here.
oh well, I'm perfectly happy with my janome6600
