If you can get the issue #36 of Quick Quilts, they have a pattern of a Wedding Ring that uses a solid ring instead of pieced. It does have a 4 patch at the end of the ring. I have the magazine but don't know if it's okay to send you a copy of the pattern.

i made one last year my first and i am very new to quilting. i recently bought the templates which should make it easier next time. i got them at joanns when they were on sale. it is time consuming and took me a long time and i had mistakes on the back but overall it was decent.

    Good Luck.
There's also another wedding ring quilt pattern out now called "qolden double wedding ring" Instead of the blank space in the circle there's another amost mariner's compass but not quite. I've made it and it's prettier than the original. One of my friends came down and I copied it and the templates.

My 3rd quilt was a DWR for my DD. I didn't know better...the Mennonite quilt goddesses shrank away when I mentioned DWR. I looked at Quilt Smart...too bulky. Then I found the Flynn DWR book and templates. I finished a beautiful queen. I did machine trapunto inside the rings which I hand quilted. I machine quilted the rings in the ditch. It is definitely do-able. I now have a Judy Niemeyer paper pieced DWR that I will tackle some day. I wish I had had it when I did the first one. PP is so precise, but I did get the template system down and my rings were fine.

Do you have a pic to share? Would love to see the trapunto. Can't recall what that is. Just picked up quilting again after 10 years away from it.

I used Harriet Hargrave's method of machine trapunto (a method of "padding" a motif with extra batting to make it stand out).
