Northern Harrier? Feeds mostly on rodents. Or a Rough-legged hawk. They look a lot alike

I just e-mailed the pictures to my cousin, who knows a great deal about birds. Hopefully, he will be able to give me an answer. I will let you all know if he can figure it out.

In our Peterson Field Guide - Western Birds, there is a Ferruginous Pygmy-Owl that looks quite a bit like your fellow. No "ears" and a sticky-outy little beak. Perhaps a close relative?

email those pictures to the state audobon society (or mine - pm me). they will identify the bird in a heartbeat.

we do that so often, we're on a first name basis with our state guy. LOL!
those pictures are great. did you set up a tripod or just get lucky?

My vote is either the broad winged or red shouldered hawk.

At first it looks like an owl we have around here. Did you know there is a northern hawk owl?
