I don't know what we're doing different in our house, but we have two vacuums that are supposed to be really great that we cannot use because of loss of suction. We've tried any number of times to do what the instructions say with no luck. We took one in to the vacuum repair and it worked for a couple sessions. . . We've been using a broom for years now.

One is a Dyson and needless to say, I'm frustrated. Anyone have any ideas?

I have a Dyson Animal and it was one of the best purchases I've ever made. One justification could be that you really will not need to buy another for years with proper servicing. They are amazing.

I've rarely had a problem with the actual motor's - it's all the cheap plastic parts that break and because they're often part of the "whole" vacuum - not cost effective to "replace" them. I have 3 large long haired dogs, so we vacuum DAILY. We also take the vacuum apart fairly often (3-5 times/year) and clean (with soap and water) all the parts that we can. So yes, we are stressing all of the pastic parts more than the average user.

Well ... last vacuum died on day 367. Seriously. It was a Eureka. It worked great until the day it died. Lots of things I really liked about it too. Too bad.

My husband had always balked at buying pricey vacuums, mostly because it's the cheap plastic bits that break and he figured he could buy X number of cheap vacuums for the same $$ that he spent on one expensive one. This time I put my foot down and told him that regardless of cost, I was looking for a vacuum that had a 5+ year warranty on it.

Got a Dyson. Just a few months ago. So far, I do like it a lot. But the true test for us is longevity.
    Smart lady!

Too Heavy!! That's the Hoover I have downstairs, doesn't work well as the thingy to select carpet height is stuck and it gets plugged up often. Have a lightweight broom type for the upstairs bedrooms and my sewing room, does a great job sucking up all the threads that fall on the floor. Don't want to invest in a new one as I'm slowly replacing carpeted flooring with hard flooring, hardwood in most places and vynyl in the kitchen.

I had a riccar for many years and it worked well with one dog. Now I have three dogs and carpet!! I bought a Dyson (which was actually cheaper than my riccar) and I love it. I just hope it lasts as long as the riccar.

I inherited a Rainbow....love it. No bags to search for, picks up anything, lots of different attachments to do all kinds of things like baseboards, etc. Great vacuum but heard it's very expensive.

I have the Dyson Animal "Ball". I just LOVE IT! I didn't want to put out the money (so held off buying one for years), but I won a jackpot at the local casino one night...and THAT'S what I bought with the money...lol

    I love everything about it!
