I wash and dry and fold fabrics as soon as I get them home. I always wash and dry all finished quilts.

When I bring home fabric I serge the ends, wash it in hot water and dry it on high to assure that excess dye and chemicals are washed out and hopefully that the hot treatments elicit maximum shrinkage. Large pieces like backing are difficult to deal with but better safe than sorry is my philosophy.

I always wash. Will never ever not wash my fabric. Just washing the fabric in the kitchen sink makes me cringe sometimes to think what would have happened if I had not washed. Sometimes I have to wash the fabric 5 or 6 times to get the color out. I once had to set aside a beautiful expensive piece of fabric which was red because it would not stop bleeding. It's your choice really. I choose washing.
