I pieced it with a light gray and then I quilted it with a Guetermann's varigated blue 100% cotton. I didn't show the back (which I'll get a photo). The back has 2 pieces of fabric with just a row of the white and blue squares through the middle. Didn't want it all one fabric.
I saw the quilt on pinterest and that's where I got the idea from. The quilt I saw had 4 pieces of fabric. 2 black and 2 white. One black fabric was morse code that said the website of the folks that did the quilt. The other black was binary code. Which is what I really wanted but at $18 a yard I didn't want to buy it. The 2 white fabrics were semafor flags and smoke signals.
Thanks again for all you're kind words. If I can help anyone, don't hesitate to ask.
I'm thinking about making another (I know, I know, I know) and will do the squares again. But probably make them smaller.
Hugs!

What a clever idea. I just quilted a quilt for a grandson, 90 X 110 on my Babylock with a 7 1/2 in throat. After that I purchased a Jenoma with a 11 inch throat, now I am putting together another quilt for another grandson. However I didn't have to do as much thinking as you did.
