If I have some of the fabric left (about pillow case size), I make a bag with a drawstring and put the quilt in that. It uses up the extra fabric so I don't have a lot of "tail ends" laying around. I don't do much scrap quilting, so would rather use them up like that.

They are great ideas.
I usually have extra fabric, so I make atleast one pillow case.
Or I least plan for one pillow case, then easily used for storage. If it is a double or larger quilt, I plan for 2 pillowcases.

I would be very careful in your place doing that, because my mom one time found her quilt after a lot of searching in the trash bin, and I've heard of another lady whose quilts were taken to the trash and were gone, because she put them in a trash bag and someone else thought it was trash.
