I have been noticing our hamburger prices going up and up. Yesterday I shopped around and 80% lean was $3.99 per pound. I bought sirloin steak instead for a lower price! Whats going on? What are hamburger prices near you?

I need beef for my partially raw fed dogs and the beef prices keep going up. I haven't decided how to deal with it. It's got to be hard for people feeding families these days.

I understand this totally. We just switched over and chicken is our staple right now. Thankfully I belong to a co op to get decent prices.

Corn prices may be the culprit?
The expense to plant corn has skyrocketed the past few years, we as small farmers could not even afford to plant it. We will plant corn this year for the first time in about 4 years and only to give the soil a break . (Soil likes and needs rotation)

About the same here in MA. I look in the frozen section. There is a section where they put "about to expire" meat. It's discounted and it's just fine. You just have to use it within a day or so of defrosting. If I have company, I do buy fresh though.

If you can find the round steaks or roasts on sale grind them yourself..we go to Safeway..they have the buy one get one free on the meats. I stock up then. We have to drive 25 miles each way to the big town to shop.
My DH is thinking we need a garden this year. I told him good luck with that..the critters will eat what ever he plants..
