They both seem to have a bit of the same idea.

Okay, I'm no expert on crumb quilts, but what I think I understand is that crumb quilts are made from your small scraps of cotton fabrics. Crazy quilts on the other hand are made of a large variety of fabrics, many different textures. And are embellished with fancy stitches, ribbons, rick-rack, beads, sequins, buttons, etc. I think both are sewn on a foundation fabric, crazy quilts could have a pattern printed on the foundation or be done randomly.

I think the main difference is that a crazy quilt is embellished with embroidery, beads, lace etc.

Also crazy quilts have many different fabrics used, silks, cordoroys, polys, home dec, velvets, etc. Really whatever fabrics you have on hand are used.

Do crumb quilts use only smaller pieces, whereas a crazy quilt may have some larger pieces, in addition to the variety of fabrics and the stitching?

Similar concept, but crazy quilts are generally embellished, use a variety of fabrics and are sewn to a foundation (this stabilises the piece).
