For those who would like to try designing and making a fractal quilt on your own, you might start by reading Rose Rushbrooke's article about fractal quilt making from her website originally posted by k3n.
http://www.roserushbrooke.com/fracta...t-article.html

To find a fractal of your own to translate into a stunning quilt, there are several fractal generator programs available, some free, online.
this one is free, but quite simple and, therefore, limited

this one looks to have much more potential and has a free 30 day product evaluation period, cost to purchase the full program is $30 (this site is well worth exploring even if you don't intend to buy...his gallery is amazing, over 500 images all generated with his program...I'm thinking I need this software  )

you can find others if you Google 'fractal generators'

Thanks for those - I downloaded a couple of freewares and didn't get very far - technically challenged! LOL But I'll try these too. The ones I downloaded gave you Newton, Julia and Mandelbrots to play with but what I'd like to do is say start with a photo of my own, of a butterfly's wing for eg like the one in Rushbrooke's design and manipulate that. Guess I have to spend a bit more time and have a bit more patience!  :-D

I've been fascinated with fractals since I saw a PBS program a few years ago. The trouble is I start looking at them and the next time I'm aware is a couple of hours later. What is it about them, I just love looking at them.
