From Cindy at Hooked on Quilting
Fayetteville, TN
Greetings!
The old saying, “Time flies when you’re having fun,” is certainly true. At least we think so around here. Seven years ago today we signed the papers making Hooked on Quilting our very own. In those seven years I have gained a lot of useful knowledge. What have I learned exactly? Well, I’ll tell you. I have learned that:
1. Quilt shop owners do not get to sit and play with fabric all day long (talk about a burst bubble!)
2. Quilt shop owners do not always get to sew their project of choice (burst bubble #2!)
3. Quilt shop owners need to be very creative thinkers
4. Quilt shop owners do not necessarily know how to do every technique that is the current hot thing
5. Owning a quilt shop does not automatically make one omniscient which results in the following dilemma (see #6)
6. Quilt shop owners do make mistakes when piecing blocks, cutting kits, writing directions for patterns, etc.
7. Quilt shop owners have to overcome their insatiable appetite for fabric (well, I do at least, and yes, I’m still working on it)
8. Quilt shop owners should never fall in love with their own fabric
9. Quilt shop owners need to listen to the likes and dislikes of the quilters they serve
10. Quilters are generous people who would give you the shirt off their back…literally
11. Quilters are very honest people
12. Quilters love sharing, whether it’s their fabric stash or the happenings in their life
13. Quilters can always find something to talk about even if they meet a total stranger
