I have wanted to try making some portrait quilts. I used to paint portraits and find myself wanting to do the same with fabrics, which doesn't work the same. The first is my grandaughter done the traditional way. The second is done with hand dyed fabrics in a more realistic way. Next time I will dye my fabrics in a more gradated way so there isn't such a definite line. The hair gave me the most trouble but I think I like it.

I think you've got the hang of it! Those are gorgeous! I prefer the more realistic look, but you are quite an artist! A tan that matched the color of the flowers on the background, or even slightly darker, might have worked better on the highlights of the DGD's face. The eyes are beautiful (beautiful DGD!)!

Both quilts are beautiful. Someday I want to give that a try.
