    International Mail Service
    Canada
Canadian Postal Employees Return-To- Work Tonight - USPS To Begin Accepting Mail Destined For Canada Tomorrow

The Canadian government passed back-to-work legislation Sunday night. Canadian Postal employees will return to work beginning June 27 at 8:30 p.m. USPS will begin accepting mail for Canada starting June 28. Mail held in the USPS network since the work stoppage began is being released and transported into Canada.

Due to the large volumes of mail held by countries, customers may experience slightly longer transit times. USPS is working closely with the Canadian Postal Service to hold delays to a minimum.

Meanwhile, Global Express Guaranteed (GXG) still is available for delivery into Canada and remains the best option to avoid delays in service. GXG is available at thousands of retail locations across the country or through Click-N-Ship at usps.com.

It is nice to have the mail going again but it would have been just as nice if the two opposing sides had worked out a solution on their own. If the Government wanted to do the right thing, they could have forced both parties to binding arbitration and let the chips fall where they may. I am also waiting for something in the mail but would not have minded waiting for an agreed settlement to this dispute.

Did you notice the gov. didn't settle the pension issue. Guess this means they can't strike for 4 more years.

From what I understand, you don't need to to worry about the backlog affecting newly mailed items. The stuff that's in the system will be dealt with as they get to it .... the new stuff gets taken care of in the normal fashion.
