Civil War shirtings make great "lights" and would look great with your Thimbleberries. Piecing the Past usually has shirting precuts.

This is my scrappy Japanese Plus and Cross quilt

Great suggestion SBG. Go to Pinterest or Google and look up "strip quilt patterns" for further ideas. Good luck and share when you finish.
