At a thrift store I purchased several yards of double knit to make a friend a winter quilt. How does a person hold the material still to cut a block? I have never worked with double knit before.

WOW a flash back to the 60's. As I recall (I mean as my grandmother told me...) you have to really pin the heck out of this when you layed the pattern out and when you sewed. I'm almost thinking that a rotary cutter may distort the fabric as it rolls along. I would not attempt more than one layer at a time. Polyester will really dull your blades quickly too.

I have made several. They are really warm and never wear out.

When I did one (30? yrs. ago) I cut a cardboard 5 inch template and traced around it with a ball point pen and cut the squares with scissors. I sewed it with 1/2 inch seams in what I kindly call an almost Around the World pattern. It is still going strong although the flannel back is getting worn. I swear this quilt is going to out live me. If I did one today, I would choose a pattern where you stagger the seams because the intersections get pretty thick.

Wow this takes me back .. the last time I made one with poly double knits ... the rotary cutter had not been invented!
Just a note about some of those vintage double knits... some of them pilled.
