do you get strange comments when people find out you make quilts for charity?

I make Quilts of Valor for the soldiers and their families at Ft. Hood
in Killeen,Texas.
I also make quilts for a local group, "The Linus Connection", all of
those quilts go to in-need children in central Texas. I firmly believe that God gave me the ability to sew so that I could make charity quilts for those who need them most.
The song, "A Quilter's Embrace", by Cathy Miller. This song is all about why we quilters make charity quilts and says it all.

I get grasps of horror and very strange looks when I talk about giving my quilts away, mainly to adults. No one has ever insisted on paying me for one. Which I don't make them for money. They just are convinced I could make lots of money selling them.

I say a prayer for each blanket, that God will bless the child that recieves it. I give from the heart. I don't take well to demands. Baby showers for distantly known people might get crocheted booties.

Unfortunately, at times fabric given for those quilts went home with members and no quilts were made, they used it for themselves. When people found out what I did they asked if I would like fabric, and I said yes, keeping that fabric separate from my own stash. Seeing pictures of the children with one of my quilts really made my heart sing, there's nothing like it. Unfortunately, there are people in this world who cannot fathom why we would make a quilt to give away to someone we don't even know. Their loss.

I'm a pretty frank speaking kind of person, I think I would say something along the lines of " You would take this quilt from a child battling cancer?" or I know your not the type of uncaring person who would even consider taking a/this quilt from a child with cancer(or other ailment) If you still feel the need to have one of these quilts, then I suggest you sign up for one at the hospital/cancer treatment/hospice center. Thank You for your interest. smiling of course. I have not run into anyone like that Thank Goodness! if they are friends of yours, maybe something like " I make these quilts for people/children with cancer, I pray I never have to make one for you"

People getting offended because you make quilts for kids with cancer and not for their daughter who has the sniffles? What is WRONG with them?! The nerve of some people! Shame on them!
I commend you for your charity work. That's really thoughtful and sweet of you to brighten up a cancer patients day with something that was made with love and care. :)

I've never had anyone say such negative things. It's usually, "aren't you wonderful (no) or that's a lovely thing to do. If anyone was ever negative I would give them some facts & figures that would blow their minds. As mine are all made for children they'd be horrified at how many children are abused and/or neglected every year.
I do it for the children and myself. I've always gotten more pleasure out of giving than receiving, even as a child myself.
