I had read on here about using washable glue sticks for holding something in place when you were appliqueing---well I bought some cheap ones at the Dollar Tree (3 for a $1) and tried them out Saturday-----

I applied the glue on the dresden circle and then ironed over it---OMG! it is the best thing I have tried yet as I am kninda new to quilting----has never moved or slipped and got alot done this weekend---

Thanks for the advice!!!

I also use them all the time for appliquing, but have always used Elemers - Walmart had them on sale for 40 cents each.

The washable Elmers glue is what I have used and like you it is incredible how wonderful it holds. I tried it on bindings and will never pin again.

I agree have always used elmers glue. Never tried glue sticks. Someone said they can gum up the needle.

These were to Rosetta Art work glue sticks-----

I found this quilt top in a box in a barn---I did everything I could think of to get the mildew and water stains out---thank goodness because of the way it was folded none of the dresden plates got stains on them---so I undid the stitching on them and am putting it back by hand just the way the lady did it to start with----by estimates this quilt is about 50 years old to 75 years old and made from feed sacks--

Wow. We'd love to see a picture of your rescued quilt when you finish restoring it.
