I am not good at free motion so I have always used SID using the invisable thread for the quilt top and the bobbin thread the color of the backing. I was wondering if anyone has done maching quilting using 1/4" sewing line beside the seam. If so how do you like it? I'm thinking of trying it and could use any help with this. Thanks in advance.

I've done it with a matching thread and a neutral thread. I liked the results just fine. I think sewing a 1/4 away from seam is MUCH easier than SID.

Thats what I was thinking too. Like you I would use a matching thread instead of the invisable. My eyes are not too good lately and I think I might be able to do the 1/'4 instead of trying to sew in the ditch. Thank you for your prompt answer.

When I went to a Hand quilting class. They taught us to mark 1/2 from seam with tape and handquilt beside it..
No reason it wouldnt work with a machine.
It is your quilt. I say do what you think will be best for you.
Have fun.

I've done it with close stitching, and I've done it with really high contrast thread (white on Navy, Navy on white, etc)

I really like the look, and think it emphasizes the piecing to a wonderful degree.

I have done it too and liked the look. Depends on the quilt sometimes.
