Default Foot pedals from antique sewing machines

Often overlooked and very seldom photographed are the foot pedals from antique electric sewing machines.

I thought I'd show a couple of mine:

On the left is a foot pedal from a 1920's Singer 66.

On the right is a foot pedal from a Willcox & Gibbs (dated between 1900-1923).

Neither foot pedal is really safe to use in my opinion. I've never tried the Singer foot pedal as it's wiring is really, really bad and the W&G seems to have a short in it somewhere either in the wiring or the foot pedal.

I've seen photos of this style of Singer foot pedal turned into a lamp. ......

Those are nice examples of antiques.

Their designs are fairly simple. I've repaired a couple and rewired several. I use them all.

Well, I've been drafted to do a tute on rewiring a motor so as soon as I come up with a foot controller that needs rewired, I'll do one of those too.

It's kind of strange how things work. I tell how to do it after I've done it, then I find out I shoulda took pics while doing it. Hmmmm ......

.........what I really need now is for someone to donate a complete machine that needs a total re-wire. That way I could do it all in one shot.

Thanks for sharing, I never knew how ornate the foot pedals were on those machines.
