Question Material or Fabric?!! Whats your preference?

I have a question, whenever I'm writing my friends or posting here and talking about my sewing issues and such, I often get stuck on which words to discribe my "quilty stuffs". Which is more appropriate?!! Material or Fabric!!?? Is there even a difference?!

Fabric is a more specific name, since material can refer to all kinds of things. When quilters talk "material" we know we mean fabric, but other people might not know what kind of material we're talking about. Imagine telling a friend you went to the store to buy some material - would they think building material?

i believe fabric is the better term if you are indeed referring to fabric. Material can have many different meanings about type, quality, etc. For instance you might say "the materials used in quilting are - needles, thread, rotary cutters etc. I am not a gramarian but believe this would be clearer to me.

I agree with Holice. Fabric is the term I always use. Material could mean many things.

Many years ago before I ever started quilting but did a little sewing of clothes I called it material. Since I've been quilting I always call it fabric.

I thought that people who sewed clothing, etc, called it material, and quilters called it fabric.
