I plan to try my hand at the OBW and eventually a kaleidoscope quilt. The book I bought says I need a 60 degree ruler. So I have been searching on line and have had no luck so far. Do I really need this exact size? How long should it be? I found one that is 3" but I do not know if that will be sufficient.

On most of your long rulers there is a 60 degree mark, so you could use that.... Kaye Wood has a 60 degree ruler-it is called the 'Starmaker 6', but her markings match her patterns. She also has a pattern for a kaleidoscope quilt. Also check out you tube for here tutes. Also Eleanor Burns has tutes on her site at quiltinaday.com.... good luck. After you see how easy these are you will be amazed!

I bought the Clearview Triangle for doing my OBW. It has SUPER 60 as the name and does 30-60-120 degrees all on one ruler. It does up to a 8 and 1/4 inch 60 degree triangle. Printed on it is www.aliciasattic.com.

I have used the 60 degree lines on my regular 12.5" square ruler but it is easier to use the StarMaker 6 ruler from Kaye Wood. You can make your own template with a protractor & a piece of plastic or cardboard. Don't forget to add your seam allowance, though.

the answer is yes.....your project will go much better and more accurately if you have the 60 degree ruler as specified. Sure you can do it with a square or the 6x24 but I don't trust my cutting.
