I think your husband did the right thing by going to a less traveled road for safety. Getting home 30" to 1 hr or so later is better than nothing getting there at all...

My lights are set on automatic, so they are always on while driving. That's how they were set when we bought the car and I just left them that way. I see lots of people driving in the rain and stormy or dark conditions without their headlights on. I just think it is a safety thing to have them on and not to have to think about it.

Here if your windshield wipers are needed so are your lights.

It's the state law here too, but we always travel with our lights on rain or shine. To my thinking, anything that improves your chances of avoiding being hit is a good thing.

The lights go on by themselves - I don't have to turn or pressing anything.

When the lights aren't on, the person's dashboard is not on either - so I wonder how they don't see that and how they don't see how dark the road in front of them is.

I often blink my lights on/off to maybe clue them in - or when we both arrive at a stop light - I let them know.

In PA you're supposed to have your headlights on when ever you use your windshield wipers. I automatically put them on for any highway driving as well. Glad you made it home safely

We leave our low beam lights on all the time for safety.......during rain we recheck to be sure they are on usually come on automatically, but we still check. Think lights and wipers on during rain is the law here in Florida.

Read a report several years ago about using lights in daytime for safety........it is true that other vehicles are better able to see you with those lights on and once you get used to using them you will remember to turn them on and off it they are not automatic.
