This is my SIL's recipe for regular Hot rolls...I do that also, but my favorite is to add the cinn/sugar and turn them into cinnamon rolls. :D

Large sifter (5 1/2 cup) heaped up with flour + 1 1/2 cups more
3 pkg. yeast
3 1/2 cups milk
1 Tbl. salt
1 cup sugar
3 T melted shortening

Put sugar, salt, & yeast in a large bowl. Heat milk to lukewarm with the shortening to soften. Pour over the ing. in the bowl and stir until disolved. Stir in flour a little at a time and beat with mixer until smooth. Pour onto a baking sheet that has been covered with the 1 1/2 cups of flour and knead until all the flour is kneaded in and the dough is smooth. Put in a large greased bowl and grease the top of the dough Place in refrigerator until the dough doubles in size.

For Hot rolls...just pinch off pieces and roll into balls or you can make loaves or you can make cinnamon rolls.

For Cinnamon rolls...

Mash dough down and divide into workable sizes. Roll dough out into a rectangle. Cover with melted butter. Layer with a generous thick layer* of brown sugar. Sprinkle on cinnamon* as desired. If you like raisins or nuts, sprinkle them onto the dough. Roll up jellyroll fashion.

Using a scissors or a piece of string, cut off slices about 1 to 1-1/2 inches thick. Place slices in an 8 or 9 inch round greased cake pan. Place one slice in the middle and other slices around it. Press rolls down to even out and fill pan. Let rise until rolls fill the pan generously or double in size.

Bake at 350 degrees for 25/30 minutes or until golden brown. (If you live in the south.....grease the tops with butter when they come out of the oven to give them a nice shine and to make your butt even bigger)

For cinnamon rolls>>>>Add your fav. vanilla sugar glaze or add this one

Vanilla Frosting
2 cups powdered sugar
1 tablespoon butter, melted
1 teaspoon vanilla
milk or cream (2 to 4 tablespoons

For the Frosting:
In a medium bowl, place sugar, butter and vanilla. Then stir in enough milk or cream to reach a thick, hardly-able to stir consistency.

Spread over warm rolls as soon as they are placed on a plate to let the frosting melt and run into the rolls.

These are fantastic hot!!!! They also freeze wonderfully. I make up batches to spread around the neighborhood when I want to make friends.

Oh Patti, these sound delicious, but it always confuses me as we use ounces as measurements, do you know the imperial equivalent for me?? :(

Izy...I don't really know, however I do have some measuring cups that show both...so it appears that

1 cup = 8 oz.
1 Tablespoon = 1/2 oz. or 15 ml.

Hope they turn out great!
