Please .. if you didn't get to watch it this weekend -- please go to www.redbullstratos.com and watch the incredible video of this young man's "sky dive" from 23 miles above the earth. i watched live - with my heart in my throat - and remembered back to watching all the marvels of the space program as a kid. This type of thing has only been done once before - from 19 miles up - in the '60s as part of the NASA space program. There are more articles out there today -- but watching it happen was WOW ... AMAZING !!!

He is a dare-devil - true - but they were collecting a lot of scientic data -- as it has long been under consideration by NASA as a potential way of saving a flight crew in a crippled spacecraft - ie: low orbit/upper atmosphere free fall / individual parachute landing.

As OP posted - they collected some valuable data that could come in use in the future. As for the pod, it landed and they will collect data from that as well.I was glued to it live. When I saw him standing on the edge of the pod about to jump ... I held my breath, and I don't think I exhaled until he flattened out his spin. It was simply amazing and incredibly brave.
