Default Hats for homeless Veterans

I live in Del Norte county. in California 90 miles from Eureka in a small town. We are a poor country with little resources for helping our veterans. I was told by the local commander here that there are 500 veterans here and 2/3 are homelss. We have no shelters for them in our small town, and old version of city fathers, don't want homeless sheltering here.

A lady and I heard of a need for these guys (even a lady out there homeless with 2 kids) to have warm caps for their heads as it gets pretty cold and rainy here most months. Between her and I we have turned in 23 caps and I have 3 done and hoping for 3 more by the week-end to turn in, before going back to work on the dolls for VERY sick kids.

Here is what the hats look like. The brim is wide and doubled to come over the ears or even eyes and nose when sleeping. We were told those getting the hats really like them. They are crocheted.

So good of you to help make these. They look really warm. A real shame any of our Veterans are homeless.

Awesome that you are doing this! It's a sad day when the people that gave of their time to fight/defend our freedom, are homeless.

What a super idea and much appreciated by the recipients!
Other parts of the country sould try to start something like that.
May I ask where you got the pattern?
Even in Florida there is a need for those cool nights we have been having.

Those hats are wonderful! I'm an avid crocheter myself. I can crochet twice as fast as I can knit!

thanks for the reply. The man who delivers these goes out into the woods to find these veterans living out there. I don't think it is easy to find them or gain their trust.
Lots won't let themself be found
