The chicks are all original based on chicken shapes from a pattern called "Hip Chicks" (I think there was a similar pattern in a magazine at one time too). It is an easy shape to draw and the chicken blocks are about 8" x 12" in size. We kept with the black and white body shape and then each lady improvised with the rest of the design so they all came out different. I have had the hay fabric for many years and have no idea where you could get more of that but you may be able to come up with a grass type fabric or just use gold fabric and add stitching to it to make it look more like straw - just an idea. The wood framing is a batik fabric that I found at eQuilter about a year ago - however there are lots of wood type fabrics out there that I think would work just as well. The black roof boards also came from eQuilter but I have seen some other roof shingles that I think would work well.

While I wasn't real happy about doing this exchange - I love the way it turned out. Now I just need to find a place to hang it in my home!

I think it's fantastic. Love the setting together of the chicks! Very creative thinking.
