Question New to me 301A

I just got a 1956 301a singer and have a few questions.

1. What size needles/what kind can I use on it

2. Are the bobbins the same ones as on the featherweight

3. If I need some parts or feet where can I get them

Thats all I can think of right now, but sure I will have more further down the road.

Thanks for the help

A 301 uses regular needles and the bobbins are the same as the Featherweight. You will need Singer slant shank feet and I don't know about generic feet. I have a sewing machine store in the area who used to be a Singer dealer and he had lots of extra feet and they were used but inexpensive ($2). My local thrift store also has extra feet but you need to be sure that they will fit your machine. Happy stitching on your new 301.

I have a 301 in a cabinet and I love it. I was able to get a 1/4 in foot, a walking foot and a darning/free motion foot. Some of these were reconfigured especially for a 301. The FW and 301 feet are not interchangeable. I got mine from Sew Classic. they are very helpful.

I also have a 1956 301A......I found her at a yard sale last year. One of the best days of my life. I found out mine was one of 501,000 made in Anderson, SC that year. That's kinda cool to know. Congrats on your find....now you have to name her. Tell her my Jennie said HI.

I agree with shelbie and mamagrande. The bobbins are the same as the FW, any standard needles will work in the machine just match the needles to the fabric you use; and you can find feet at sew-classic.com or sewingpartsonline.com. The best walkingfoot for a 301 is from sew-classic.com and is made especially for the straight stitch machine. Enjoy your 301. I love mine to pieces.
P.S. Tell yours "Thelma" said Hello.
