I am moving across the country this week. I am in the process of getting my machines ready to be packed. I know I have seen it mentioned on here before but should I have the presser feet up or down for travel? I am taking the feet off & the needles & bobbins out. Any other advice?

I always put my foot down, needle down, with a piece of fabric under the presser foot when I travel. I have only done local traveling, not across the country, but it has always worked for me with what I have done. Good luck with your move!

If you are taking the foot, needle and bobbin out I don't really think it matters. When my machine travels to a class I put the foot down on a piece of material and leave everything else the same. I take off the spool of thread and push the thread spoon flush with the machine and put it in my travel case.

I do the same and put the presser foot down with a piece of fabric under it. Whenever I pick up my machine after servicing that is how they give it back to me.

Good luck in your move. If you have the original boxes and packing for your machine that would be good.

I always try to leave the presser foot down whenever I'm not sewing. And especially if I'm moving the machine from one place to another whether it is in a case or a cabinet. If it is a long distance move I would remove the machine from the cabinet, wrap it securely in bubble wrap and put it in a box with lots of peanuts (or scrap fabric). I would not remove the presser foot. Instead I would leave it down with a piece of fabric under it.

I'm not sure that removing the pressure foot and bobbin are a good thing. Having them separate from the machine could be an issue if they become separated in the move.

Probably the spool pin, but maybe it is called a thread spoon in Canada.
