I keep seeing these posts concerning mug rugs. Do any of you put anything in them to keep moisture from seeping through to your furniture in the event it's used as a coaster with a sweaty glass?

When I make mug rugs or coasters I usually use fleece as the batting or backing. This seems to create enough protection.

If you are worried make so one side is open to slide things in. I make larger place mats this was so that an ordinary placemat slides in and keeps hot stuff off table. Or put in some spice eyc which will smell nice witha hot mug.

I use one layer of that heat resistant stuff in the middle of two layers of fleece batting. Nothing goes through mine. Even if you spill on it it catches it.

Thanks so much. I knew I could count on all of you. I, too, love all the ideas. Now, to make some as soon as I get back from taking hubby to the chiropractor.

I just use cotton batting, and have never had moisture seep through.

Having had an issue with moisture last summer with iced tea glasses, I put a piece of "Glad" Press + Seal on the back of my mug rug beside my computer. It peels right off for washing and is easy to replace. Janice

I used flannel back tablecloths for awhile but reaized that someone might put in dryer & have problems. product liability. Insul brite is ok but be sure it doesn't go in microwave.
