It is a compination of applique and patchwork

Before Kumiko Sudo wrote her book, she was the featured quilter at the International Quilt Festival in Houston (YEARS ago). I came upon the display of her blocks, many, many of them, with a friend and we were instantly captivated. After sucking all the air out of the room with our gasps, we stayed in that area for at least 45 minutes checking out every amazing detail of the flowers which we had never seen anything like before. I am still in awe of them all these years later! Her work is truly inspirational.
