It is listed for sale but no price. It looks to be in great shape, and also is old enough to be a shuttle bobbin.

The machine has only a 60 watt motor. So I think the machine is a mini.

    The photo is awfully blurry...

Does anyone know this machine, and can you comment on whether it is good?

Oh man. Just as I thought I was well and truly not interested in another machine...

i think it's not so mini looking at the relative size of the (shuttle) bobbin holder. That size motor was typical I think for home sewing.
Other more knowledgeable folks here will be able to be more specific.

Personally, I don't care for the Godzilla type finish on machines, but this one is very cool. I like the round feed dog cover plate!

Oldsewnew, that is a very good point about the size, relative to the bobbin winder. Thanks for pointing that out.

Candace, I agree - that dull machine finish (I did not know that is what they meant by Godzilla finish!) normally is UGLY to me, but this one looks neat. And I do like the giant round stitch plate as well.

Judging by the shuttle bobbin winder, and also the top tension stuff along top the machine, I think the machine is pretty old. Any ideas from anyone here?

Candace, by the way, in my head, I always pronounce your name in flamboyant faux-Italian. That is, "Can-da-chay". Hope you don't mind being... part Italian! ;-)

Haha, I've been called worse names. The typical and laughable mis-spelling is Can Dance. I always giggle at that one.

That machine is probably from sometime around the late 30's to early 40's, give or take a few years.

Thanks, Mark! So, when did shuttle bobbins become uncool and the newer style round bobbin come into fashion? Is that a good across-the-board indicator when judging machine age?

(Steve, I don't really mean uncool. I mean, of course they are cool. The coolest. ;-) )

    Cecilia,

I have this machine. Mine was sold by Montgomery Wards, but made by National (I believe). The Instruction booklet (model S40) has a 1952 date on it. It is a 3/4 sized machine. The bed is 13 1/8" X 6 1/4". It is a very cute little machine.

Not really, as Singer used 3-4 bobbin systems concurrently.
