Default question about opening pes files

I bought the ped basic embroidery software and i still cannot open any pes files with this system. What am I doing wrong. I have the cd with embroidery patterns on it but when I go to open them to put them on the reader card, it says that they can't be opened? Do I need other software other than the ped basic? Any help will greatly be appreciated.

If the files are zipped, they will need to be unzipped before your machine will recognize them. Wilcom has a free design resizer/format changer that will allow you to change other formats to work with your machine. Good luck and have fun with your machine.

I agree with jlm5419. If you purchase your designs on line, they are often 'zipped' which is a file compression format. Zipping a file makes it smaller and easier to transmit. If you just double click on the file and it asks if you want to extract it, that means the file is zipped. Just say yes to extract it.

What size do you have you hoop size set to in PED? It defaults to 4x4 so it will have to be set. The place to change it is in the upper left hand corner. How many stitches are in the designs you want to open?

I have a Babylock that uses pes format. I purchased Anita Goodesign CD's and downloaded the re-sizing program from her CD. After that, I was able to open the pes files and view the design and re-size it if I want. Other pes format designs that I have I loaded on a flash drive and open them on the Babylock.

I agree with Mitch's mom. I have a brother 1500d and was having a lot of trouble and when I finally got to speak to the brother expert at my local store she told me to check what size my hoop setting was on and it had somehow changed to a bigger size than my machine uses therefore It wouldn't allow me to open any designs. I had to reset it to the largest hoop size for my machine and it's all good now.
