Here in south Texas it doesn't get that cold, in fact hardly ever. I'm making a quilt and putting fleece as the backing. Would it quilt up ok without batting? I've never skipped batting before.

I haven't done it before but would think with the thickness of the fleece that it would be about the same as batting and cotton so I don't see why it wouldn't work.

No reason to use it if you are using fleece. Flannel might even be a little cooler.

Fleece makes a very nice backing, without batting!

I live in Florida and love my fleece backed quilts. They are softer that batting quilts.

I use fleece as batting/backing on all of my foundation pieced string block tops and love it! Since it'a bit stretchy I highly recommend using 505 basting spray to make the quilting process go smoothly though.

My DD has made several without batting, she used flannel as well as Fleece, she preferred the flannel said it was not as hot

I'll bet the thinnest Dream cotton and a lightweight backing like a thin muslin would be cooler. Fleece doesn't breathe, in my experience. That said, i did make a quilt with that batt but used heavier fabrics and it was very warm. But with thin fabrics, like the 30s reproductions, it was almost weightless.
