Default quilt patterns

If a pattern says block size is 12" and includes seam allowance does it measure 12 1/2" when block is done???

I would assume that they are referring to the finished size of the block (when they are sewn together) being 12" and that your pieced unfinished block size would then be 12.5". In the 30 years I have been quilting, the majority of finished block sizes are whole numbers but as in anything in life, there are always exceptions!!

It means the individual block will be 12.5" BEFORE it is sewn into the top (when it will then measure 12").
