Default Measurements for a friendship square

I am putting a double checkerboard square boarder around my quilt. The corners didn't work out to be light dark light dark when the blocks met at the corners. SO.. I decided to put a little friendship star in each corner. I can not get the size right for the friendship star to fit the four patch block I made for the border.

The finished block is 3.5 inches sq. I can't figure out the measurements for a friendship square that size. Can any one help me. ?

The name of the quilt is crazy chain by sally schneider.
Thank you much
whitney

draw a line corner to corner in the space you want to fill. divide it in thirds, then add the 1/4 inch for each seam and you will have the size of each row of the friendship star. I may not understand the question you are asking.. How big is the border four patch?

Thank you Katrbee.
I was sooo close, but not close enough. (The border is 3.5 inches.) These 5/8 always seem to get me.. Will touch back with you. You would think something so simple can be so difficult. Thank you much. I couldn't find it on google so I thought of this board.

Yes, sometimes it make sense to make a corner block. EQ5 may NOT have all the bells and whistles as newer versions have but as QuiltnNan shows, it still works great in those tight situations !! LOVE IT !!
