Default messy messy messy corners

i've never had this problem before, but man...

the last 2 quilts i have quilted have had the WORST corner jam ups ever.

so frustrating, especially considering it's hardly rocket science to plan your corner and execute it carefully.

GRRR!

I find it easier to sew the binding on TOP of the quilt ---- the corners are easy to turn. If I'm not paying attention ( twice I've done it ) I will have the binding on the bottom of the quilt when sewing it on and everything is backwards to me.

Good work you got one corner right. Take it slow a deep breath forget frustration, have a glass of wine , go go go.

I usually have to work out my corners on paper if it is an intricate quilted or pieced corner. I confess, I usually try to avoid them when I can.

When I had to do miter borders on a queen size quilt, I always had to go back and fix at least one corner. I measured twice but didn't cut, I basted the corner until it was correct. I was so angry that all I wanted to do was let out a very loud scream but I didn't want to scare my dog !! Wish you had posted a picture. Usually when I hit the wall with a quilt, I walk away and do something else even if that something else is HOUSE WORK !!! I find I clean faster when working off my anger !!

I glue my border corners and binding corners before sewing. They are right before I put in the first stitch.

What about the corners is the problem? Maybe I missed something in the thread......if it's a miter.....I like EB's way..if it's binding..mitering that corner.....again Eleanor Burns comes to mind.....in any case...take your time, and maybe instead of measure twice.....do it three times! Sometimes, I have too!

i am having a hard time making the quilting patterns move through the corners in a pleasing way. it's carelessness more than anything - a lack of planning and forethought. i've started the last two in the centres of the borders and quilted into the corners, finding myself in poor condition to draft turns and patterns that aren't disruptive.

i just need to slow down and think it through before i start stitching. it's not the construction i am having trouble with - it's the quilting design.

Aileen, thank you for that book recommendation. You are much too hard on yourself. I think I recall your last corner jamup, didn't you post a picture of it? Even a quilter would hardly notice it.
