Default Before gifting a baby quilt do you wash it?

Just wondering what the accepted procedure is. I am making a baby quilt for a shower gift. Do you wash these baby gifts prior to gifting? thanks
Sandy

I was all my quilts before gifting. I have mountains of dog hair here and I also hand quilt so there are marking lines, hand oils, and of course, the starch that I've used in the cutting process. I don't use specific baby detergent though, just my normal detergent w/fabric softener that I use on all my laundry. I do let the new mom know all of that so she can decide if she wants to wash again with something specific.

Yes, I also wash before gifting. I make a lot of receiving blankets and burp cloths too. I try to use baby detergent or at least non purfumed detergent. I also put in a card with care instructions.

I wash all my quilts when finished, they are full of starch and stuff and I want all that gone so they are ready to use.

The last quilt, burp clothes for a shower I did not wash. I attached a note with washing instructions and a box of colour catcher with them. I figured they would want to use their own type of baby detergent.

I wash them all in a regular washer and dryer because I know the quilts are going to homes where the new parents will not pamper them. So far so good.

I always wash my quilts before giving, especially the baby quilts because I know they will get lots of washings and I want to be sure all the seams are tight before they are given out. Plus this way they have already 'crinkled up' and are a little softer by being washed and having the starch and spray basting washed out. I do give written wash/dry instructions in the give card to the recipient.

I was all the items I make after they are finished whether I gift them or put them up for sale.

I just gifted a quilt for a baby shower this past weekend. In the past I have not washed before gifting, but for this quilt I used spray basting for the first time. I definitely wanted it washed before a baby used it. I was so nervous! But I am happy to say it turned out great. It gave me new confidence as a quilter - yes my quilts do stay together after I give them to people!
