Default libby, libby, libby has no label, label, label

how do you quiltin' peeps make your labels for your quilts?

looking for ideas on how to get started on this part of quilt making... but really don't have a clue as to what technique to go with.

i'd love it if you can share pictures, links, tutorials, etc on what you use to identify your quilts.

thanks in advance

Some embroider on a separate piece of cloth. Some use permanent marker. I have a friend who is visually impaired and her niece uses French knots for Braille to label quilts for her. She also hand embroiders around the edges information to label. Many different ways to label. I've labeled right on the quilt itself by hand embroidering. Some machine embroidery. Some have others do it for them. You can Google quilt labeling and they have many ideas.

I have a book of iron on transfers. After you iron them on a piece of muslin you color them with pigma pens and attach it to the quilt. There is also fabric sheets that can go thru your printer at home. You just write what you want the label to say and print it out.

I love the printer friendly iron on labels, but I also quilt in my name and the year.

ha, i remember that commercial ;-) I do the triangle in the corner, label, sewn in with the binding. My label information is usually fairly simple. here is a link to what I'm talking about: http://kleinmeisjequilts.blogspot.co...le-labels.html

If I am making a quilt for a particular person and know that while I am making it, I put a piece of white fabric on a piece of freezer paper, print whatever I want on the label on the white fabric.

Before I quilt the quilt, I sew it onto the backing, usually lower right corner, about 8 inches above the bottom of the quilt and about 8 inches in from the left side of the quilt. Then I quilt the quilt.

The 8 " up and 8" away from the lower right corner was arrived at after I used this method and wound up trimming half the label off the quilt. Sometimes I don't measure so well...

Almost always, I stitch the year (sometimes in roman numerals) and my name somewhere in the quilt itself with the same thread as the quilting. It is fun to hide it and this is in addition to the label.

I don't usually label - I know - baaad me. But I have used a permanent sharpie written directly on the back of the quilt.

I don't usually label my quilts either. The person I make it for knows who it is from, I don't make heirloom quilts. So they are usually pretty used up.
