Default Nonslip potholder ideas

I'm making some hand potholders for some friends and is there anything I can use on the material that would give the potholder a better grip surface? Is there anything I can spray on or something? I'm just concerned that as they grip the hot pan or cookie sheet the material could slip and they could drop it. Does that make sense? Any suggestions?

You might want to look at another design where things might not slip. You might Google and see what designs are out there. I have seen some heart shape potholders where you place you thumb in one side and other fingers in the other side and the potholder folds. Good Luck

I agree with ManiacQuilter2, the heart shaped potholder with the pockets on each side that your thumb fits in one side & fingers slip in the other side are great. They fold over to use & you have a great grip to them. I have made several & everyone loves them. They also protect the top of your hand when using them in the oven.

The potholders you can grip with do work well. If your "heart's" not in it, you could do a rectangle with a smaller rectangle on top, binding to finish the edge of the "pocket" part as well as the outside edges?

I like to make chenille potholders. The chenille side is non slip.

I don't remember ever having a pot holder slip & I've been holding pots for 68+ years.

Last year i had a full crock of super hot apple butter slip out of my left hand and i was burned really really bad over my hand and leg. Even though i cursed and blamed everything in sight, it wasn't the pot holder. I have a problem with not being able to grip with my left thumb. When i take hot items out of the oven i have to slide my hand under the pan because i cant trust my grip. Unfortunately, i cant do that with a crock pot. It would be handy to have something more grippy in my kitchen too.

There are silicone mats that are heat resistant and even silicone baking pans now. Is there something out there that can be cut and attached to one side of a pot holder maybe?
