I was a finger pressing failure until I was doing the dishes one day. Someone had given us a selection of wooden cooking implements. One in the set was a very tight grained, smooth, wooden spatula with no finish on it. Short. Curved. Rounded, angled tip. Just the right size and form for, TA TA, finger pressing. You too may have just the answer for finger pressing woes. It is so nice when the light comes on.

Have a good time at your workshop.

I use the wooden presser or my nails without problem. A lot of times, those blocks turn out better than when I press as I go.

I'm a technology geek so I have to answer this one...simply put, battery technology really isn't all that advanced yet, and irons are very "hungry". To get enough juice to press an average quilt you'd probably need to haul something about the size of 3 car batteries around with you!

I think we're going to see a technological revolution happen again, as soon as someone can figure out how to make really GOOD batteries.
