Default Recruitinig the next generation....my 16 y/o son

I decided to not give my son a choice--as part of his home schooling, he was/is going to learn to sew by making some quilt tops. So, this is his first one. This is just the top and it will be for a boy as a charity quilt.

I think he's proud of it, though he groaned at the idea of getting his picture taken--I told him I wanted to put it on the quilting board.

The pattern is a "scrapbook" style pattern using focus fabrics which seemed perfect for a charity quilt and perfect for a beginner sewer. (I bought him fabrics with the themes of Ping Pong, Star Wars, Spiderman/Marvel comics, hamburgers, pizza, etc. --that will be next.)

The pattern is called Memento of Stitched Together studios and I got it as a free download from Benartex.com a while ago.

It is here: http://www.benartex.com/uploads/Imag...k_mementos.pdf

Besides learning to sew (and it looks like he is learning very well) quilting can be used as math and geometry lessons. No matter what he said, his eyes tell me he's pretty proud of himself. Great student and great teacher!

Good for him! My boys can sew just like my girls can change the oil in their cars. This the day and age where it takes 2 people working outside the home to make a go of things. It takes 2 people working at home to keep things going there too. He is learning a life skill as well as a sewing lesson and math lesson and geometry lesson, too. He is also learning an even more valuable lesson.....helping others. Great job to him and to you for teaching him.
