Threads on the back of a quilt top
I have a white and red quilt top and I am trimming the red threads from the back of the quilt top as best I can. They just keep shredding….arghh. I am worried they will show through.
Any advice? What do you do, and how much do you trim?

Personally I get the back as "clean" and thread free as possible. I use my embroidery scissors. When I take the top to my favorite LAQ she tells me she wishes all of her clients would do likewise. It is time consuming but well worth the effort. I hate to see a thread trapped under a top I worked so hard to make.

Important...do not pull on them. If you pieces are not exactly on the straight of grain you run the danger of having a too small seam allowance left. Trim off as many long threads as you can before sandwiching. Are you using a dark or light back? If your back is light, stray threads show up more. If I find a loose dark thread after quilting, I take my tiny crochet hook and pull it out.

This is a problem, especially when have a two colored quilt of light and dark. It has helped me to starch, starch, starch before cutting. Also, I too trim the ads when top is finished. Good luck. Sometimes we see things others do not. As it has been said her before we are usually our worst critic.

I've had that problem too. It is easy to get the seam allowance too narrow. When that happens, I double stitch the seam, then, stitching on the seam allowance only and using a short stitch length, I stitch again. It's a pain in the ole patootie, but at least I feel secure that the seam won't come apart.
