Default Can you use cotton with flannel?

So I have this lady bug thin flannel that I would like to make a quilt with I have white flannel to go on the back but I had a thought today "What if I used white cotton fabric with the flannel?" I know from reading that after you wash the flannel it can shrink so its important to wash it but I have never tried it. I was wondering if anyone has ever used cotton with flannel? or thought about it?

I do it all the time. I haven't mixed them on the top, but cotton top with flannel backing. No problems.

Just finished a baby quilt with flannel as the backing. Turned out great, makes it nice and soft to cover baby.

I definitely have made quilts with flannel on the back but also have mixed it into the top as well.

I mix flannel ( which is cotton fabric) with flat ( regular) cotton and even with batiks all the time. Even add wool appliques to the mix, toss in some silk highlights.... In other words, you can mix fabrics, fibers, textures all you want. Some are easier to work with ( flannel really easy) than others. But the sky is the limit.

Yeah, I knew flannel is cotton. Guess I should've put an adjective in front of it. Figured everyone would know what I meant. I guess I'll be more specific in the future so everyone doesn't think I'm stupid.
