Default Drew own lines for quilt question!

I didn't have a boarder stencil so I drew my own pattern from something I saw on a shirt and tweaked it a little bit to make it look different. My question is does it look okay? Does anyone draw there own designs?

I drew my own designs for my latest quilt. I wanted something that fit precisely in my blocks and fit the style. I made templates from some laminated card stock and used them. They aren't as sturdy as plastic templates but worked fine for just one quilt.

I pretty much have never used a stencil. I have used rulers and have cut out shapes from cardboard. I have always had a hard time marking stencils and have not found a good way to use them.

When one thinks about it - some one drew the designs for those stencils. why not draw one's own design?

When I couldn't find a border motif that Iiked for my nephew's wedding quilt I designed my own. I have found that I'm more willing to do this with borders.

If you think it will work, then go for it. I have a large collection of stencils and sometimes it is even hard to find the right one for a quilt. Wish you could have posted a picture.

I tend to design my own. The intricity depends on how a feel. A good hand day feathers and swirls. A bad hand day the walking foot straight lines.
after 2 operations on my left hand it, has to be a good day for fancy work to guide the fabric . I will make up a design before starting. Gentle curves etc.

I normally use pre-purchased stencils but I have made my own design in the past as well. Whatever is right for the quilt is the correct design.
