Default Almost Perfect Treadle Stitches

I am so pleased with the way the stitches are turning out on my new/old treadle, Singer Red Eye. greywuuf has helped me so much with fashioning a makeshift belt until I can get one. Right now she doesn't want to keep going. The wheels turn, but the belt stops and doesn't move after a few stitches. Still I see great possibilities.

Nice! I recently bought another handcrank......B.S.M nothing moves but the hand wheel. I haven't had time to work on it yet. It looks good though! Good buy for $10 at an estate sale.

well we are close.... at least we know the machine makes a stitch! I may have to do some thinking, and I might even film my set up..... there has to be something we are missing as it does not really take that much to make a machine go ......

Does the machine turn freely by hand or is it stiff to turn? If it turns over freely then either the belt is too slippery or it isn't tight enough or some combination of both.
It should be an easy fix. Nice looking stitches. Nothing beats a dedicated straight stitch machine for good quality stitches. They may only do one thing but they do it very well.

$10 for a hand crank machine is a fantastic deal. Lucky you!

A too loose or too slippery belt is the most likely culprit, but it might also be a gummy area on one of the parts - each time it comes around it sticks. Had that happen with one of mine. Another cleaning fixed it.

The belt might also be a too tight belt. Much less likely than too loose, but it does happen.

Default Sylvie & the Quilt Top

And here's a quilt top made with ""SYLVIE"". She's running smooth as silk now. Did more oiling and peddling and she started working like a brand new machine. She loves her new leather belt too. I love Sylvie. Many thanks to greywuuf and Ken as both fellows gave me tremendous help.

Sometimes I feel guilty when something so simple makes me so happy...
