Default What is 100% High Density Cotton

I bought some Micheal Miller fabric a while back. After washing, it feels like flannel (it felt like normal cotton before washing). I googled the fabric and it is described as 100% high density cotton. I couldn't find anywhere that describes what this means? I really hope it doesn't mean flannel. I'm going to starch and press some and hope it feels more "normal" afterwards.

From what I can tell, it means how the plants are grown, planted, and variety of plant as to growth, etc. Kind of like square foot gardening. At least that is my story, could be wrong. Would not be the first time. lol

Thanks. It is odd. I also prewashed some Bella Solid and it too feels almost like brushed cotton/flannel. I guess since I so rarely prewash fabric, I don't even know what quilting cotton feels like after it is washed!!

Are you on Well water? Sometimes my landlady doesn't do her monthly maintenance on the water treatment thingy & that affects how my fabrics wash. It is especially noticeable with crisp new fabrics, but it affects them all. If you're on a private well, maybe try washing at a friend's house or the Laundromat before assuming it's the fabric.

Send this question to Michael Miller and see what they say.

High Density refers to the thread count, like in sheets. It is a count of how many threads are in the warp and the weft per square inch.
